Robotic Surgery at Hudson Regional Hospital

Ever since being taken over by a new owner last year, Hudson Regional Hospital continues to offer new services for patients.

Our latest service is robotic surgery. In response to the lack of minimally invasive surgical options in the area, Hudson Regional Hospital has launched The Institute for Robotic Surgery, featuring the ExcelsiusGPS, the da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System and the Mazor Robotic Guidance System.

The Institute’s staff has been trained into specialized teams for each of the three technologies, ensuring a more efficient operating room experience for both surgeon and patient.

“There is a misconception that patients need to go into Manhattan to get the best orthopedic surgical care, but we are affiliated with some of North Jersey’s and New York City’s most gifted doctors right here in Northern New Jersey,” Dr. Nizar Kifaieh, MD, MBA, CPE FACEP, president and CEO of Hudson Regional Hospital. “Together with our specialty-trained operating and recovery room support staff, the Institute can offer surgeons and patients an expert, efficient experience that supports quicker and easier recovery times.”

The Institute for Robotic Surgery offers specialized surgery in the following modalities:

  • Orthopedic
  • Spine
  • Gynecology and Uro-Gynecology
  • Hernia Repair and Bariatric Surgery
  • General Surgery
  • Urologic Surgery

The Mazor Robotics Advantage

Mazor Robotics is an Israeli medical device company and manufacturer of the Renaissance robotic guidance system which has been used at Hudson Regional Hospital for many minimally invasive procedures. Mazor Robotics has been clinically proven to reduce the average hospital stay by 27%, cuts complication rates in half and reduces radiation exposure by 74%. If you are suffering from back pain, joint pain or a back issue, Mazor Robotics may be the solution for you.

The Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System

The da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System allows surgeons to operate on several different areas through just a few small incisions. It has a magnified 3D high definition vision system and finger-like instruments that bend and swivel better than any human hand could.

The da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System has been clinically proven to contribute to lower complication rates, a short hospital stay, less blood loss and less chance of blood transfusion.

ExcelsiusGPS Robotic Navigation

Hudson Regional Hospital is one of only five medical centers in the country to offer this technology that calculates the precise surgical site, then guides the surgeon to that specific site on the patient’s body for placement of the implant or instrument.

The benefits to surgeons include decreased operation times, reduced exposure to radiation and increased accuracy through its compatibility with computer tomography (CT), intra-operative CT and fluoroscopic imaging modalities.

Patients who qualify for this procedure should anticipate faster recovery times; less blood loss and muscle damage; and smaller incisions, which will reduce infection risk, nerve damage and scarring.

About Hudson Regional Hospital

Hudson Regional Hospital, located at 55 Meadowlands Parkway in Secaucus, offers preventive and other services both on an inpatient and outpatient basis. The Institute for Robotic Surgery is part of an extensive renovation project by Hudson Regional Hospital to provide the best quality healthcare to Hudson County residents and the surrounding communities. Hudson Regional Hospital’s medical staff can facilitate and deliver training to any interested surgeons, the hospital said.
