Physical therapy is a non-invasive discipline that works to maintain, develop and restore maximum physical function and mobility. This approach can improve the lifestyle of any person at every stage of life, whether the goal is to recover from an injury or surgery, prevent future injury, relieve pain, or deal with a chronic condition. Physical therapy covers all phases of healing, from initial diagnosis through the restorative and preventive stages of recovery.
Physical therapists have an established history of helping individuals improve their quality of life. Whatever the cause for treatment, the right combination of exercises and therapies has a powerful effect on recovery and relief, beyond a functional level and towards maximum wellness.
Hudson Regional Hospital is proud to house a brand new, state-of-the-art physical therapy and rehabilitation facility on the 2nd floor, Hudson Physical Therapy. While physical therapy is a vital part of Hudson Physical Therapy’s approach to wellness, the facility also offers additional wellness services including acupuncture, massage therapy, personal training, and more.

Your road to recovery doesn’t have to start after surgery. In fact, pre- and post-operative physical therapy are two crucial aspects to your surgical experience at Hudson Regional Hospital. While most patients are familiar with a post-operative rehabilitation program, you may not be aware of the benefits of physical therapy prior to your procedure. The goals of a pre-surgical rehabilitation program include:
Following surgery, physical therapy can start anywhere from a few hours to a few days after the procedure. A patient’s ability to regain motion, strength, and ultimately return to a normal lifestyle depends on physical therapy. Without it, the body will not regain normal movement. The goal of physical therapy following a surgical procedure is to minimize the adverse effects of surgery, such as pain and swelling, and to restore normal movement, flexibility, and function. The program is typically divided into phases; the first comes immediately after surgery, when the body part may be immobilized while pain and swelling subside. Next comes a series of progressively challenging exercises to build strength, motion, and stability. The final goal is to return the patient to a pre-injury activity level. The convenient location of our physical therapy facility on the 2nd floor of the hospital makes for a smooth transition for the patient from surgery straight to rehabilitation.
