Hudson Regional Health Celebrates Historic HPAE Labor Agreement

Statement of Dr. Nizar Kifaieh, CEO, Hudson Regional Health

SECAUCUS, NJ — (July 9, 2025) When he acquired Hudson Regional Hospital, our Chairman Yan Moshe’s first objective was to solidify relations with union-represented healthcare staff, which had deteriorated so badly that it was difficult for the previous owner to attract staff.

Over the ensuing 8 years we have always negotiated in good faith and have been committed to market-leading compensation and conditions for our staff. Yesterday’s historic agreement with HPAE resolves another set of owners created by prior owners whose business plans failed not only the staff but the community. Now the collective bargaining agreement related to the former CarePoint acute care facilities in Jersey City and Bayonne serves as a shining example of Hudson Regional’s leadership as a healthcare provider: our highest value is around attracting and retaining high-performing medical professionals to assure excellent care for the region.

Under the new 5-year agreement, for the former Christ Hospital in Jersey City, where HPAE represents only the nurses, and for Bayonne Medical Center, where HPAE represents all Organized employees, staff will receive an unprecedented salary increase and recover lost “step” advancements that were halted by prior management. Relative to insurance benefits, HRH will absorb increases in premiums except the portion borne by employees with no reduction in coverage. HRH also will offer new optional EPO that will reduce costs for employees who elect it. In addition to increased compensation and improved workplace benefits for all related staff, this agreement secures appropriate staffing levels and advancement opportunities. Within the walls of our four hospitals, our staff morale and relationships with management are wholly aligned and we are pleased to be able to advance their careers through this agreement.

We have work to do to bring the former CarePoint facilities up to the standards the community deserves, but we are making rapid progress and we expect to report more advancements on a regular basis.
