Bio
Dr. Avik Sarkar is a Gastroenterologist who specializes in advanced endoscopy including pancreatic disease, biliary tract disease, and pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions of the gastrointestinal tract. He has a special interest in endoscopic management of obesity and endohepatology. He performs advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and endoscopic treatment of obesity, amongst other procedures. Dr. Sarkar was born and raised in New Jersey. He completed his undergraduate education at Rutgers University with a degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience. He furthered his education at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and completed his residency in internal medicine at Jefferson Medical College/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia with a Gastroenterology Fellowship at Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He further pursued a fellowship in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Sarkar has had multiple presentations at major gastroenterology conferences and has published several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on advanced endoscopy.
