Kayal Orthopaedic Center joins Hudson Regional Hospital

Kayal Orthopaedic Center, led by Robert Kayal, MD, FAAOS, founder, president and CEO, cites Hudson Regional Hospital’s recent investments in several state-of-the-art robotic-assisted surgical systems as among the many reasons that the practice has affiliated with the premier community hospital.

Through an exciting new relationship, renowned North Jersey practice Kayal Orthopaedic Center brings award-winning expertise in robotic surgery to Secaucus-based Hudson Regional Hospital.

Hudson Regional Hospital, a Secaucus-based full-service community hospital that opened in 2018, is proud to announce that Kayal Orthopaedic Center has joined the institution’s top-notch team of physicians and further enhances its broad range of surgical specialties.

A renowned practice with several locations throughout Bergen County, Kayal Orthopaedic Center specializes in robotic arm-assisted surgery for total knee replacements, partial knee replacements, patellofemoral replacements and total hip replacements, and recently completed one of Hudson Regional Hospital’s first Mako robotic arm-assisted total knee replacement surgeries.

Hudson Regional Hospital’s recent investments in several state-of-the-art robotic-assisted surgical systems  including the Mazor, Globus ExcelsiusGPS and da Vinci Xi brands along with another soon-to-be-acquired robotic platform uniquely designed for joint replacements — are among the many reasons why Kayal Orthopaedic Center elected to affiliate with the premier community hospital.

“Through our new relationship with Hudson Regional Hospital, our experienced team will be able to perform Mako robotic arm-assisted joint replacements and other minimally invasive orthopaedic surgical procedures in the hospital’s state-of-the-art operating rooms, expanding our footprint and providing convenient access to these critical services for many patients from North Jersey and New York,” said Robert Kayal, MD, FAAOS, the founder, president and CEO of Kayal Orthopaedic Center.

A Revolutionary Relationship

Dr. Kayal can’t say enough about the remarkable breakthroughs enabled by robotic-assisted surgery. Among them, “Mako robotic surgery allows us to do a virtual replacement before the surgery so that we can properly position the hip or knee on a cross-sectional image such as an MRI or CT scan to optimize position, size and alignment,” he explained. “It allows us to see an exact replica of the patient’s unique bone anatomy in three dimensions and ensure that the implant fits precisely like a glove.”

Ultimately, he noted, “Mako robotic technology allows for less-invasive surgery, which equates to less bleeding, stiffness, swelling and post-operative pain and a quicker recuperation” — all of which result in better outcomes and an enhanced patient experience.

Despite its availability, Dr. Kayal confirmed that most orthopaedic surgeons nationwide still perform conventional joint replacement surgery without the assistance and precision of robotic arm technology, a reality that he believes sets both Kayal Orthopaedic Center and Hudson Regional Hospital apart.

“Hudson Regional Hospital has invested tremendously in the field of robotic arm-assisted surgery and shares our philosophy of staying current, keeping our fingers on the pulse of medicine, and offering the latest and greatest technologies in the field of orthopaedic surgery,” said Dr. Kayal, who was voted a ‘Top Doctor in New Jersey’ by Castle Connolly, America’s trusted source for identifying top doctors through an exhaustive and independent process of peer nomination, research, review and screening.

“In our mission to build a healthier community, Hudson Regional Hospital serves as a model community hospital with great doctors and clinical support specialists, cutting-edge technology in conjunction with a strong minimally invasive surgery program, and a commitment to providing superior care to patients and families,” said Nizar Kifaieh, MD, MBA, CPE, FACEP, president and CEO of Hudson Regional Hospital. “We’re delighted to welcome Kayal Orthopaedic Center to our rapidly-growing team of top physician talent and to continually deliver a best-in-class patient experience for area residents.”

“We’re very excited to work with Hudson Regional Hospital,” Dr. Kayal concluded.
