Hudson Regional Hospital Earns Gold Standard Stroke Certification for Ability to Determine Patient Treatment Plan in :30 or Less

Hudson Regional Hospital (HRH) has received certification as a Primary Stroke Center by DNV, a global accreditation organization setting benchmarks for quality care and patient safety for hospitals and health systems.

Recognition as a Primary Stroke Center affirms the hospital’s readiness to handle a full range of stroke-related medical conditions as well as their capability to diagnose and develop proper treatment plans for stroke patients within thirty minutes or less. Prior to earning this certification, HRH underwent an in-depth review process, where DNV surveyors evaluated and observed practices, interviewed team members and reviewed extensive documentation. Earning this certification further highlights HRH’s dedication to delivering efficient and high-quality care, emphasizing the importance of prompt and accurate interventions that greatly impact patient outcomes.

Hudson Regional Hospital’s accreditation as a Primary Stroke Center by DNV is one of several achievements for HRH in recent years. This certification follows their designation as a Primary Stroke Center by the New Jersey Department of Health in 2022 and the grand opening of their Cardiac Catheterization Lab in 2023. Equipped with two Siemens biplanes, HRH’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab offers the highest level of imaging technology available to effectively treat complex coronary and vascular diseases found in their diverse patient population.

“Our investment in highly skilled staff and advanced technology, such as our state-of-the-art Cardiac Cath Lab, underscores our unwavering dedication to identifying and treating stroke patients quickly and effectively,” said Dr. Nizar Kifaieh, President and CEO of Hudson Regional Hospital.  “The implementation of this technology will have a significant impact on early disease detection and advanced treatment options for our patients. With a focus on coronary and vascular diseases, this new technology will enhance our capabilities in neuro intervention for acute stroke, peripheral vascular disease treatment, and much more.”

“Every moment counts when treating a stroke, which is why at Hudson Regional Hospital, we prioritize immediate and precise care. Upon arrival, patients demonstrating stroke symptoms are expedited to CT scan,” said Daniel Korya, MD, Director of Stroke at Hudson Regional Hospital. “This swift protocol allows us to rapidly formulate an individualized treatment plan, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients. Our team’s expertise, coupled with cutting-edge technology, sets a new standard in stroke care and recovery.”

“This certification marks a major milestone for the advancement of healthcare in Hudson County, bringing the latest technologies and treatments closer to home for the community. With a focus on holistic care and community engagement, this certification represents a significant step forward in ensuring that Hudson County remains at the forefront of innovative healthcare solutions.”

Since 2018, Hudson Regional Hospital leadership has invested more than $50 million in facility renovations and enhancements, improving the quality and safety of patient care. Earning this prestigious Stroke Certification further solidifies their dedication to delivering first-rate care to the community.
