Last night, Hudson Regional Health (HRH) was honored by Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli and the Secaucus Town Council in celebration of Secaucus University Hospital’s 50th anniversary serving the Secaucus and Hudson County communities.
In recognition of the milestone, Mayor Gonnelli and the Town Council issued an official town proclamation to HRH Chairman Yan Moshe and CEO and President Dr. Nizar Kifaieh, recognizing the hospital’s history in Secaucus, its revitalization under HRH and the many healthcare professionals who have served in the hospital. Mayor Gonnelli and the Town Council also designated October 4, 2026 as “Secaucus University Hospital Day” in the Town of Secaucus, the day of HRH’s free community festival.
“For 50 years, Hudson Regional Health – Secaucus University Hospital has called Secaucus home,” said Mayor Gonnelli. “During this time, the hospital has been an anchor of healthcare services that our residents have come to rely on. I am especially proud of the many upgrades at the facility, and the doctors, nurses and staff who make sure residents receive exceptional care. I thank the hospital’s leadership for supporting our community, sponsoring Town events and organizing special programs at their premises for our residents. Congratulations and best wishes for continued healthcare excellence for decades to come.”
The hospital first opened in 1976 as Riverside General Hospital and was later known as Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center. Following years of financial and operational challenges, the hospital began a new chapter in 2018 when it was acquired by new ownership led by Chairman Moshe and Dr. Kifaieh and renamed Hudson Regional Hospital.
Since then, the hospital – renamed Secaucus University Hospital – has undergone a dramatic turnaround, with multi-million-dollar investments in its facilities including a new Cath lab, lobby, patient rooms and more. HRH established the nationally renowned Institute for Robotic Surgery, helping make advanced robotic and minimally invasive procedures available to patients closer to home. The hospital became the first in the New York tri-state area to utilize the ExcelsiusGPS system for spine procedures and, in 2022, received the first-ever Surgical Review Corporation accreditation for Excellence in Care in Spine Surgery.
Secaucus University Hospital has also earned multiple Castle Connolly Top Hospital distinctions, including recognition for Hip and Knee Surgery, Pain Management and Overall Patient Satisfaction, and in 2026 was named a Top Hospital in New Jersey for Spine Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery. The hospital is also a New Jersey Department of Health-designated Primary Stroke Center.
“In 2018, we saw a distinct vision for this hospital and made a commitment to invest in the Town of Secaucus and its future,” said Chairman Moshe. “Nearly a decade later, I am proud that Secaucus University Hospital has emerged as one of the top hospitals in the state and serves as a model for modern healthcare. We thank Mayor Gonnelli and the Town Council for honoring our organization and for their unwavering partnership.”

Additional 50th anniversary celebrations
As a part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Secaucus University Hospital, HRH will host two events for the community, including a free family festival on October 4, 2026 from 12:30 to 4:30 pm in the parking lot of Secaucus University Hospital (55 Meadowlands Parkway). The event will be co-hosted with Mayor Mike Gonnelli, the Town Council, and Town of Secaucus, and will include family-friendly activities including a bouncy house, carnival games, face painting, balloon artists, food and beverage trucks, and live music.
HRH will also hold a 50th Anniversary Cocktail Party to raise funds for the Hudson Regional Health Foundation, the non-profit arm of Hudson Regional Health, on Wednesday, September 16 at 5:00 pm at Secaucus University Hospital.
