Secaucus University Hospital First in NY/NJ to Use New Technology for Chronic Low Back Pain

Secaucus University Hospital announced today that Dr. Johnson Ho performed a two-level basivertebral nerve ablation using Medtronic’s new ViaVerte™ Basivertebral Nerve Ablation System, marking a key milestone as the first use of the technology in the New York/New Jersey area.

This minimally invasive procedure uses targeted heat to disable pain-sensing nerves, with the goal of providing lasting pain relief, especially for patients with chronic low back pain originating from damaged vertebral endplates. It offers patients another potential option when chronic low back pain has not improved with other treatments.

Patients living with chronic low back pain can schedule an appointment with Dr. Johnson Ho or any of Hudson Regional Health’s other Pain Management and Intervention services by calling 201-392-3278.

The introduction of the ViaVerte™ system continues Secaucus University Hospital’s commitment to bringing new medical technology and innovative treatment options to the Secaucus and Hudson County communities. Last week, Hudson Regional Health’s Ophthalmology Medical Director, Dr. Brett Bielory performed Hudson County’s first-ever robotic laser cataract surgery at Secaucus University Hospital.

In 2018, the hospital emerged as a nationwide leader in robotic-assisted surgery, becoming the first in the New York tri-state area to utilize the ExcelsiusGPS system for spine procedures and expanding its program with advanced robotic technologies across multiple surgical specialties.
