Hudson Regional Hospital Donates Thanksgiving Meals To 200 Families

On Monday of this week, the town of Secaucus and Hudson Regional Hospital donated Thanksgiving meals to 200 Secaucus families.

The families were selected in advance by the town of Secaucus. The town donated the turkeys and all the sides. That food donation was funded through a grant from Community Food Bank.

Hudson Regional Hospital donated pies and gave each family a $10 gift card to ShopRite, according to Sabina Sanchez, the community outreach coordinator/patient representative at Hudson Regional. She also lives in Secaucus.

Ever since the local Secaucus hospital was bought by new owner Yan Moshe, Hudson Regional Hospital and the town of Secaucus have had a tight partnership, often putting on community events together. Hudson Regional also has the contract to provide 911 and ambulance services to the town of Secaucus.

Secaucus’ small hospital used to be called Meadowlands Hospital but it was sold in 2017 to Moshe, a real estate developer who owned several ambulatory clinics in Hackensack. Moshe reportedly purchased the struggling hospital for $12.2 million.

At the time Moshe purchased the hospital, it routinely got “D” grades for patient safety from Leapfrog medical safety ratings group. Also, on average, it was only operating at about 13 percent capacity, meaning on any given day only about 26 of its 200 beds are full. Meadowlands was also being fined by state auditors for failing to submit financial records.

However, since Moshe took over, patient safety rankings and grades at the hospital have improved. Since taking over ownership, Moshe has been on an ambitious campaign to make the Secaucus hospital profitable, launching an entire robotic surgery division and advertising the hospital on billboards throughout the Meadowlands.

Sanchez said she had a full knee replacement done via robotic surgery this past winter at Hudson Regional.

This is the third November in a row the town of Secaucus and Hudson Regional Hospital have partnered to give away the free Thanksgiving meals.

On Nov. 23, the hospital will give away free turkeys at the Meadowlands YMCA and will give away turkeys to 200 Hudson Regional staff members.
