Bio

Dr. Gary A. Gonya is a Johns Hopkins trained Orthopaedic spine surgeon. 100% of his practice is focused on the diagnosis and surgical management of neck, back and nerve related spinal pain.
One of the key first steps to improving spine related pain is for the surgeon and patient to be on the same page. Dr. Gonya takes the time to comprehensively understand how the pain is limiting a patient’s quality of life and to create a plan for modifying the pain and restoring function.

When spine surgery is indicated, Dr. Gonya places an emphasis on educating the patient and reviewing all the different surgical approaches and options available.

Dr. Gonya strives to find minimally invasive and muscle-sparring approaches and techniques which allow for a more effective and efficient recovery following surgery.

Endoscopic surgery of the spine using camera-guided technology and motion preserving disc replacement are a few of the areas which Dr. Gonya specializes within Orthopaedic spine surgery.

Dr. Gonya received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1998. He went on to train as an Orthopaedic surgical resident at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital completing his Chief Resident year in 2004. During his Orthopaedic surgical residency, Dr. Gonya completed subspecialty training in pediatric Orthopaedic surgery at the Dupont Children’s Hospital and Orthopaedic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. During his multi-specialty training in spinal surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Gonya worked alongside recognized leaders in neurosurgical, pediatric and adult spinal deformity correction surgery.
